Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is a type of cognitive-behavioral therapy that focuses on providing individuals with skills to manage painful emotions and decrease conflict in relationships. Developed by Dr. Marsha Linehan, DBT has been effective in treating a range of mental health issues, including borderline personality disorder, depression, substance abuse, and post-traumatic stress disorder. This therapy combines standard cognitive-behavioral techniques with concepts of acceptance and mindfulness. Through individual and group therapy, as well as coaching, clients learn to regulate their emotions, tolerate distress, and improve their interpersonal effectiveness.
